Yes, You Can Be Whatever You Believe In
Written by Harifa Daly• June 10, 2025
I came to Europe at a young age, alone, with a six-month-old baby and no help. I had no background in writing, media, or broadcasting. But I had one thing belief.Today, I’m the proud author of an award-winning book, Life Menu, published in Ireland. I wrote it myself without any training in creative writing. Just faith, courage, and a decision to begin.
As a Black woman in a new country, I could have stayed quiet. But I chose differently. I picked up my phone and started practicing. I began interviewing people, including politicians, without fear or permission. I taught myself how to speak publicly, how to listen deeply, and how to stand boldly in rooms I once thought were not for me.
I launched my own media channel. I became a red carpet host at major events. I learned how to interact with people confidently, across all cultures. I studied, I read, I pushed myself to
grow. And doors opened wide.Today, I’ve received awards from different countries, been featured in TV series, reality shows, films, and even received a congratulatory letter from the President of Ireland. All because I believed in myself enough to take the first step.
To every Black woman entering a new country, starting from nothing hear me:
Yes, you can.You can become a writer, a media voice, a leader, a light. You don’t need permission just faith, resilience, and your voice If I can rise from a place of no help, no background, and no fear so can you. You are more powerful than your circumstances. Yes, you can be whatever you believe in.
