I had the pleasure of attending 7 events across Ireland this year!

The symposium and cultural event, organized by the unforgettable Women’s Network in collaboration with the Institute Of Antiracism and Black Studies was the highlight for me ( I’m biased 🥰)

We were treated to enlightening presentations. Dr. Sunday Shaibu Danladi spoke about Pan Africanism, while Dr. Jennifer Okeke discussed racism in the sex trade. Kosi Anyanwu, Ph.D Anyanwu, Ph.D, shed light on leveraging the digital revolution and emerging AI field to amplify Africa’s resources. Winifred Ikhine Akinyemi shared her experiences at the Department of Foreign Affairs, Ireland, and her contribution to the book ‘Equity in the Workplace: Experiences of Black Irish Women in Ireland’. Carline Thompson not only talked about her chapter in the book but also showcased her delicious banana bread. Eya Lawani challenged us to recognize and speak up against injustice, a powerful lesson that resonated with everyone present.

Stevie Monaghan from AFA wowed us with the possibilities of AI, while Loveth Owhor, PhD.,highlighted important developments in medicine and other fields by individuals of African descent. Irenitemi Abolade shared insights about undertaking a phd in Ireland. The dancing performance by AfroKids was simply fantastic, stealing the show with their talent.

📣 Save the date for next year’s Africa Day symposium and cultural event on June 2025 bank holiday. To get involved or sponsor the event, reach out to iabsireland@gmail.com.

A big thank you to everyone who made Africa Day 2024 in Ireland such a success. Thanks to South Dublin County Council and Irish Aid for supporting our event.
Let’s make it bigger in 2025!
